One of Matt's most significant creative relationships was his collaboration with legendary producer and songwriter Cowboy Jack Clement before Jack's passing in 2013. This mentorship and creative partnership helped shape Matt's artistic approach and connected him to Nashville's rich musical heritage. The resulting album, Out Of the Ashes, features guest vocal appearances by Cowboy on the hit initially covered by Crystal Gayle and Jonny Cash, We Must Believe In Magic, as well as a guest vocal duet with John Prine on the title track, Out Of The Ashes, which was a tribute to Jack and his family after losing so much history in the house/studio fire that happend in 2011.
